This week’s Media Create software chart sees five new entries in the top ten, led by Kid Icarus: Uprising on the 3DS. It’s been 21 years since the last Kid Icarus title appeared on the Game Boy so it’s wonderful to see the series being reintroduced with a quality title like Kid Icarus: Uprising.Media Create

Black Panther 2: Yakuza Ashura Chapter comes in at number two on the chart. The latest portable Yakuza titles appears to retain many of the same elements from the original PSP game, including graphic novel style cut-scenes and the usual assortment of hostesses to romance.

Further down the list we see the Devil May Cry HD Collection and Ninja Gaiden 3 in fourth and fifth position respectively. I’m sure NinjaGaiden 3 would have sold a lot more copies if it had been better reviewed as Ninja Gaiden games traditionally perform well in Japan.

This week’s Media Create hardware chart sees a number of consoles receive a sales boost. The release of Kid Icarus: Uprising led to a substantial sales spike for the 3DS - a 47% increase over last week. The handheld’s success caused overall console sales to climb by 23% from last week, taking the tally to 163,461 systems sold during the latest accounting period.

PS Vita sales continue to hover just above the 10 000 mark. The handheld has only managed to sell 630 385 units in Japan so far, with a high proportion of those sales occurring during the Vita’s launch week. Hopefully it can bounce back soon with the release of a few must-have titles otherwise Japanese developers will continue to favor the 3DS as their target platform.

Here’s this week’s chart in full (previous sales data appears in brackets):
